Wedu has won the Global Solution Award GSA at Women Deliver 2013 Conference!
The GSA is a new social enterprise competition recognizing financially sustainable business models that have profound and large-scale social impact potential on women and girls. Wedu received a $5000 USD cash grant with the award. This is our most recent grant of the five awards we’ve copped in the 18 months of our existence.
Mi Win Thida, Wedu’s mentee from Myanmar, presented at the conference – talking about the impact that Wedu’s mentorship has had on her life – together with Marica Rizzo, Mentorship Manager, making a convincing presentation of their work that won the votes from the impressively experienced panel of judges that included TrustLaw Connect; Medic Mobile; the Clinton Global Initiative; SHE Innovates; Ziqitza Health Care Limited. The presentations were facilitated by Rachel Zedeck, Founder of Backpack Farm. Wedu stood out to win one of the three grants from a field of social enterprises from across the globe.
Janna Oberdorf, Director of Advocacy and Communications at Women Deliver said “Women Deliver is excited to showcase the new, innovative, and inspiring work of social entrepreneurs (sic) at our third global conference.” Oberdorf further sung the praises of the competitors, “the goal of this contest was to highlight those individuals who are working to make a difference for girls and women, provide feedback and guidance on their plans to move forward, and encourage other entrepreneurs in the field to focus on the health and well-being of girls and women.”
Wedu’s Co-founder, Mario Ferro commented “We are extremely honoured to receive this award recognizing the impact of investing in the education of girls and women through mentorship and financing. The funds will help foster the creating of Wedu’s We plan to use the funding to build on our mentorship platform.”
