Sunline Foundation and Wedu partner to amplify access to education

Wedu has partnered with Sunline Foundation to grow our Income Sharing Agreements (ISA) program, creating more opportunities for women across South and Southeast Asia to finance their education and career goals.

This collaboration is an important step towards building a world where women have equal opportunities to follow their aspirations and become the leaders they have dreamed of.

Education is a vital part of building an equitable world. And yet access to education is not a given for many women in South and Southeast Asia. Socio-cultural, gender and economic barriers make it difficult for women to prioritize their own development, and to find ways to fund their further education without putting their families in financial risk.

This is why one of our offerings at Wedu is the Income Sharing Agreement programme – an education funding programme that offers upfront educational funding in exchange for a percentage of future income. After completing their education, ISA recipients’ income contributions are reinvested to support the education of future generations of women – creating a sustainable, cyclical fund for women, by women.

Wedu’s Income Sharing Agreement fund is a sustainable, cyclical education fund – created by women, for women.

Sunline Foundation has given a grant to Wedu to cover the operational costs needed to distribute the ISA credit line to women applicants across South and Southeast Asia.

Sunline Foundation’s Impact

Sunline Foundation is a philanthropic initiative dedicated to empowering Social Purpose Organizations (SPOs) that promote self-sufficiency and create lasting, positive impact in their communities. Founded in 2019 and based in Singapore, Sunline Foundation is supported by Sunline Wealth Management Pte. Ltd, a family-run fund management company with Swiss roots. The foundation was created to align the family’s philanthropic efforts with the values of their wealth management clients.

For Sunline Foundation, philanthropy goes beyond just giving- it’s about providing both financial and non-financial support to drive lasting, transformative change.”

Sunline Foundation aims to maximise the impact of every dollar by not only scaling successful initiatives but also funding often overlooked grassroots organisations that have the potential to make a meaningful difference in small, vulnerable communities by developing sustainable local solutions. The Sunline Foundation team is deeply engaged as investors and works alongside a network of ecosystem partners offering complementary sector-specific expertise to their investees.

This partnership will enable Wedu to deploy ISA funds to support approximately 40 women. By supporting the deployment of the ISA credit line, Sunline Foundation has the potential to triple the impact from their investment in the first year alone, with cascading benefits for years to come due to the revolving nature of the fund.

Our Progress so Far

Wedu is the longest-standing and most experienced operator in the Income Sharing space in Asia, and the only women-centred one. Since our inception, we’ve deployed US$389,948 in educational financing, and received US$63,319 in pay-it-forward contributions. These contributions have enabled us to fund the education of 19 more women, bringing our overall total ISAs awarded to 123 women.

Much of this progress has occurred since 2022, when we established our Pioneer Fund; a consolidated multi-donor pool of blended capital, composed of a variety of investment instruments, including philanthropic grants, and patient capital, in the form of impact-linked loans, and credit lines.

With their one-year grant, Sunline Foundation becomes the latest contributor to Wedu’s Pioneer Fund, joining a mission-driven group of funders focused on enabling women’s success.

In addition to their support for the ISA programme, Sunline Foundation has generously donated US$10,000 to our Rise to the Occasion campaign, which will cover Wedu’s overhead costs. This contribution will ensure we can continue to operate effectively and scale deep our programs in line with our new strategy for the years 2025-2027 and with new revenue generation sources.

We’re excited to collaborate with Sunline Foundation, whose commitment to empowering individuals and driving self-sufficiency aligns perfectly with ours. Together, we’re helping women lead the way to a more equitable world.
