The full selection process takes approximately 2 months.
Prior to joining Wedu, I often hesitated to express my opinion as I didn’t have confidence nor know how to network or start my own organisation. Since I joined the Wedu mentorship program, I have access to my mentor who supports me, validates my ability, and coaches me to perform effectively in my professional career. Thanks to my mentor, I have become a role model and have the ability to motivate people in making positive changes for ethnic women and girls of Laos.
I was looking for a platform where I could learn more about myself; my identity, my potentialities, my areas of improvements, who I am, who I can become and how I can best serve my community. After becoming a Rising star, I now feel that this is the platform I had been looking for. Thus, to me being a Rising Star means, making myself prepared so that I can use my voice to influence many youth like myself who want to do something good for their community.
Having a mentor has helped me to be more than who I think I can be. It has only been 7 months with my mentor Suzy but it seems like 7 years of growth. She helps me discover my potential and a way to fight any challenging situation that is ahead of me. Not only that, she even taught me how to gradually let go of my bad habits and changed my way of seeing and dealing with any kind of situations that I may encounter in life. She even helped me find ways in delivering my story and share support with others.
At the time that I became a Rising Star, it was also the time I actually kicked off the career that I wanted to pursue. My mentor was very hands-on and provided me with the resources I needed to apply for an internship with MIT, which introduced me to design thinking. I’ve had more mentors since then who connected me with the right opportunities and connections to bring my ideas into life.
Being a Rising Star has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me. Wedu always considers us, even during our most difficult times, and explores ways to support us. This support has helped me navigate challenges and build resilience.
