Investing in Women through Education: Wedu and The Social Investment Consultancy Partner to Expand Income Sharing Agreements in Asia

This new strategic partnership will advance gender equality by providing accessible education financing to women across South and Southeast Asia.

We are thrilled to announce that Wedu and The Social Investment Consultancy (TSIC) have formed a strategic funding partnership to bring  Wedu’s Income Sharing Agreements (ISA) programme to more women across South and Southeast Asia. Together, we’re creating opportunities for women to access education and unlock their full leadership potential.

ISAs, one of the four Wedu offerings, are an innovative and student-centric financial solution that offers upfront educational financing in exchange for a percentage of future income. Once women have completed their further education, the income contributions from ISA awardees are reinvested to support the education of future generations of women – creating a cyclical funding pool for women grown by women.

Wedu is the longest-standing and most experienced operator in the Income Sharing space in Asia, and the only women-centered one. Since our beginnings, we have disbursed over US$ 367,281 and received US$ 60,940 in pay-it-forward contributions. We have funded the education goals of 19 more women with these contributions, bringing our overall total of ISAs awarded to 116 women. This partnership with TSIC will enable Wedu to support even more women in South and Southeast Asia to achieve their education goals.

“TSIC becomes the latest to join a family of mission-aligned funders dedicated to enabling women to achieve their educational goals on their own terms.”

The ISA programme is financed by a consolidated, multi-donor pool of blended capital- the Pioneer Fund. This means that the fund is composed of a variety of investment instruments – from philanthropic grants to credit lines. With their impact-investment loan, TSIC becomes the latest contributor to the Pioneer Fund and joins a family of mission-aligned funders dedicated to enabling women across South and Southeast Asia to achieve their educational goals on their own terms.

TSIC is dedicated to creating a future where organisations maximise social impact, equity and inclusion- enabling both people and the planet to thrive alongside profit.

TSIC is a global network of consultants that have collaborated across diverse sectors since 2008, to empower communities and promote systemic change for a fairer, greener, and more resilient world. They focus on the effective deployment of philanthropic and returnable capital to maximise impact, including through gender-lens investing. With offices in the UK, Ghana, Hong Kong, India and the Middle East, TSIC is also a proud member of AVPN, a funders’ network in Singapore committed to building a vibrant social investment community across Asia.

Wedu is thrilled to partner with a committed ally like TSIC, who shares the vision for a fairer world where women leaders are plentiful and thriving. Through this partnership, we are confident that we will continue to drive sustainable and scalable impact for South and Southeast Asian women leaders.
