How to become a mentor

Application steps

Step 1: Submission of Application
Fill in the application form.

The form collects personal details, professional background, and motivations for becoming a mentor

Step 2: Initial Screening
Wedu’s team will review applications to assess if the applicant’s experience and values align with the needs of their mentees and the organisation’s mission.

Mentors are generally expected to have at least 2 years of industry experience. Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria are shortlisted for the next stage.

Step 3: Interview with Wedu’s Team
Shortlisted mentors are invited for an interview with Wedu’s team. The interview assesses the applicant’s readiness to commit to the programme, understanding of mentorship, and ability to support Wedu’s mentees in their leadership journeys.

Step 4: Selection
Upon completing the application, interview, and screening process, selected mentors receive an email from Wedu.

This email confirms their selection and provides further details on their involvement in the mentorship programme, the next steps, and the timeline for matching with a mentee.

How much time commitment is required from mentors?

The time commitment varies by programme but generally includes regular meetings, feedback sessions, and occasional check-ins, typically totalling 2-4 hours a month and 16+ hrs in a mentorship cycle of 8 months.

What resources are available to mentors to enhance their effectiveness?

Mentors can access Wedu’s Transformative Mentoring Workbook, Leadership Development Curriculum, co-creation labs, other best practices resources, and support networks to help them navigate their mentorship roles. Access our open access resources here.
